Our Mickelberry heaven

I spent a couple of very happy hours this morning sitting in the sun trying to paint the house and barn from the back of the property. I didn't succeed very well, but as they say, every failure is a chance to learn something new!

Our house is such a pleasant place to live. Katy is out picking more blackberries to make more of her delicious blackberry jelly. Her garden is bursting with tomatoes, zucchini, beans, and peppers. The apples are ripening on the trees and the plums are weighing down the boughs with deep purple fruit. Our Mickelberry heaven.

Alaska Way

Today I took the ferry to Seattle to see a parishioner in the hospital. While waiting for the return ferry, I made this sketch along Alaska Way, just outside the ferry terminal.

Workshop notes

My notes from the workshop on youth ministry I attended today. We were supposed to draw the "ideal youth ministry". Click on the image for a larger view.

St. Columba, Kent

Today I went to a workshop called "Youth Ministry 101" at St. Columba Episcopal Church in Kent. At lunch I met a sketch of the church, and after the workshop I added color.

Manette street

After a visit to the Bremerton hospital today, I drove into Manette, my favorite part of Bremerton. Manette is an older part of town just across the bridge from downtown. I love the hodgepodge of streets and old buildings that offer prinked perspectives.

I sat in the car and made this watercolor, totally oblivious that I hadn't turned my headlights off after leaving the parking garage at the hospital. Dead battery! I called Katy, and she came to rescue me. Oh, the price of art...!

St. Antony again

I made this sketch this morning as a thank-you note to some friends. It's St. Antony's Church.

Compare with this earlier sketch.

Waterfront Bakery

This is my favorite coffee place so far in Silverdale. It's the Waterfront Bakery and Cafe located in Old Town. I made a sketch while having coffee on Monday, my day off.

Silverdale Library

I like the tall fir trees behind the library, so I used this sketch to learn how to draw trees. I'm trying to find a way to paint fir branches with their shadows and also keep the "sky holes".

Silverdale beach

It's my day off, so I sat at the edge of a parking lot and made this watercolor sketch of the Silverdale beach looking south toward the Yacht Club Broiler. I don't think we have a yacht club in Silverdale, but I guess it's a good name for a beachfront restaurant.

I was trying to paint the beach rocks and the reflections. I got the general idea, but I have a lot to learn abut beaches and rocks!

The Patio Restaurant in Bremerton

After a visit to the hospital in Bremerton, I stopped at the Patio Restaurant for a cup of coffee and a scone. An elegant little place with a view of the Manette Bridge.
