St. Andrew's, Aberdeen

Today I went to a "Fresh Start" meeting in Montesano. Fresh Start is a program to help clergy who are newly arrived in the Diocese. It's a support group and a learning experience for those of us who are making transitions in our ministry. As always, it's good to share with other clergy and hear how they're doing. I always get good ideas when I listen to others.

Afterwards I drove a few miles down the road to Aberdeen and made a sketch of St. Andrew's Church, located in the downtown area.

South Puget Sound Community College

On Monday (my day off) I drove with Katy to Olympia where she teaches at South Puget Sound Community College. It's a lovely campus with the buildings carefully integrated into the trees. While Katy was teaching her cultural anthropology class, I made this sketch.

Silverdale Post Office

I went to the Post Office to mail a letter and buy some stamps, and while I was there I made this sketch.

St. Margaret's, Bellevue

I attended a training session at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Bellevue. During the lunch break, I slipped outside and made a quick sketch of the church. It has a dramatic outline with a soaring peak, and windows that pour down light into the worship space.

Autumn maple tree

Our maple tree has lost some of its leaves but it still is a great subject for a watercolor. This is the back of our house.

Library girl with book

I went to the library to do some reading and sketched this girl who was reading a book. Her mother was sitting next to her, but they got up and left before I caught her mother. This is in my Moleskine journal (you can see some of my notes on the edges).

The Silverdale Library is very small but very popular. There's no open space at all because it's jammed with bookshelves and computer desks, and there are people everywhere. They could use triple the space.

Mall people

Today I went to Barnes & Noble to find a book on St. Francis. While I was at the mall, I took the opportunity to sketch some mall people.
