COTA Eucharist

At convention, we were treated to a Eucharist with the Church of the Apostles. Here's my sketch of the artists as they celebrated the Eucharist.

SeaTac Hilton Convention Hotel

Last week I was at the Diocesan Convention. During one of the breaks I slipped outside and made a quick sketch of the hotel.

My image of Antony

I've been doodling on a sketch of Saint Antony for some time. This is one of my latest sketches of what he might look like.

Antony lived in Egypt around the year 300 AD, when the Christian community was strong in Alexandria. Antony lived during the time that Constantine adopted Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire, and for Antony that was a tragedy. He believed that martyrdom and sacrifice were part of the essence of the faith, and without them, the faith would become soft and meaningless.

So he sold everything he had and went into the desert to live the life of a monk. He fasted and prayed and struggled with the temptations of the flesh.

Antony is our patron saint, and I keep trying to come up with ways in which we as a parish are like Antony. I'd like for us to have a visual image to represent our parish, and this sketch is part of my imaginative work with Antony.

Chief Niwot

This is a sketch of the Chief Niwot statue in the Boulder Canyon park. Chief Niwot was a the chief of the tribe that lived in the Boulder creek area when the first white man arrived. He worked for peace, but he was killed in the Sand Creek Massacre.

These are the doodles I drew during the flight to Colorado.

Sea-Tac Airport

While I was waiting for my flight, I sketched the waiting area at Sea-Tac airport with the Starbucks kiosk.

Second time for elevators

I re-painted my previous watercolor because I wanted to improve my grays. This one is done with only three colors - windsor yellow, permanent rose, and windsor blue. I mixed the grays with all three colors, trying to get a range of grays. I used only my #12 flat brush for this.

Grain elevator

This is the grain elevator in this small southeastern Colorado town. I experimented with different shades of gray.

Railroad car

Today I'm visiting my mother in southeastern Colorado. I went to the rail yards and made this watercolor of a railroad car.
