Starbucks coffee group

It's funny watching guys get together for their morning coffee. These guys were joking around with each other, obviously enjoying a little time together before they went to work.

Slush and snowmelt with color

This is a view of our house from the intersection of Bucklin Hill Road and Mickelberry Road on a gray and slushy day.

Slush and snowmelt

It's a bleak day after Christmas, with gray skies and snow melting everywhere. I made this sketch with sleet coming down. This is a view of our house from the corner nearby.

My prayer table

Every morning I spent 45 minutes to an hour in prayer. First I light a candle and do 20 minutes of centering prayer, using a rosary for prayer beads. Then I use my Prayer Book and Bible to go through Morning Prayer.

This sketch shows the stool I use as a table for the candle, and you can see my Psalter, Bible, and Prayer Book along with my rosary and my prayer bowl. The bowl was made for me by a friend, and I have small pieces of paper with prayers on them. At the end of Morning Prayer, I take the pieces of paper out and I pray for each concern as I put them back in the bowl.

Hospital waiting room

Today I spent several hours in the waiting room of the hospital while a parishioner was in surgery for knee replacement. I made a sketch while I waited.

Silverdale Lutheran Church

Every Tuesday I go to a text study group at Silverdale Lutheran Church. Between four and eight local pastors meet to discuss the Bible lessons for the upcoming Sunday. Since we're usually using the same lessons, we all have a common goal of preparation for our Sunday sermon. Most of the pastors are Lutherans, but they allow the stray Episcopal and Methodist pastors to join, too.

I really enjoy this group. These are smart people with rich backgrounds in ministry. They're compassionate, warm, self-effacing, and creative people, and I feel fortunate to join the group. Bill Crabtree, the pastor at Silverdale Lutheran is the organizer of this group and a wonderful man.

After today's meeting, I had some time to stand outside and sketch the church. I think I got the basic outline of the church with the proper perspective, the values are more or less right, but I'd like to have a better color choice for under the porch. Anyway, a fun, quick sketch.
