Bremerton Symphony Chorale sketches

This week we've been rehearsing nearly every night for our concert tomorrow night, "A Night at the Opera". We'll sing some of the classic opera choruses: Verdi's Aida, Wagner's Lohengrin, Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov. The sketch on the left is our conductor, Alan Futterman, who has a marvelous nose; and two of the musicians.

Hillary Clinton

I have a guest preacher tomorrow, so I'm not preparing a sermon tonight. Feels kind of strange. I had time to sketch Hillary Clinton from the cover of Time magazine.

I met Nathan when he and my son were friends in high school. Nathan is now a college student at the University of Oregon and a gifted photographer. I made this sketch from of of his photos on Facebook.

A gray day

It's cold and gray today....what's there to sketch? Maybe I'll find something inside.

I don't have to preach tomorrow because two folks from Hospice will talk, so I have some extra time today. I'll use it to get ready for our mission statement meeting tomorrow after church.

Our house again

I painted our house again using the first sketch as a guide.

Our house on Tracy Avenue

Today I sat across the street and made this watercolor of our house.

Self portrait

My first attempt at a self portrait, working from a photo. I tend to be a little tentative and hesitant to use darks for fear of overworking the portrait. I like the colors I used - starting with Windsor yellow, building with permanent rose, and darkening with cobalt blue. I see that the initial outline is critical to getting the right proportions.

At our weekly gathering of Poulsbo Art league, I sketched these artist friends at work.

Newspaper guy

Saturday morning at Starbucks reading the newspaper.

Bible scholar at Starbucks

More people do Bible study at Starbucks than anywhere else. This guy was reading his Bible intensely, talking on his cell phone, checking his laptop, and jumping up to talk to people at other tables.
