Herbert O'Driscoll workshop
Last week I attended a preaching workshop by Herbert O'Driscoll. He's the former dean of the College of preachers in Washington, D.C., and has a wealth of knowledge about preaching. He started his talk by reflecting on the life of the preacher. He acknowledged that preaching can be a a lonely endeavor, and he encouraged us to enter into the scripture stories. He urged us to be ourselves and tell our stories and stories of the world around us that intersect with the life of scripture. And he reminded us that most people are unfamiliar with the Bible and need to hear the scripture story fresh every time.
