Pickup truck subject

Sometimes I waste a tremendous amount of time searching for a suitable watercolor subject. But a true artist should find subjects everywhere. While I was visiting Chad and Brittany, I stepped out their door and saw this old pickup in the alley and I thought, "I can paint that." It has all the challenges of any painting: composition, shape, color, and value. I spent a pleasant hour working on this watercolor.

Guy on the computer

While Guy was on the computer, I made this sketch of him.

Chad and Brittany's summer rental house

On my vacation, Guy and I drove to Florence, OR, where we visited Chad and Brittany. While we were there, I stepped outside and made this sketch of their little rental house. It's located down a side alley in the landlord's back yard. They're renting it for a month or so just so they can get away from the city. Sure was nice to spend a couple of days with them.

Port Townsend busker

I went to Port Townsend and made this sketch of a young man playing his violin on the sidewalk for donations.
I used to work in a shipyard, so boats are a fascination of mine. I made a watercolor of this rusty fishing boat sitting out of the water in the Port Townsend boatyard. In the upper right you can see my thumbnail sketch.

Chimacum Shed

I made a watercolor of this shed near Chimacum. A photo of the shed is below.

Here's a self-portrait  made on the spot:

Starbucks again

Yet another Starbucks customer slaving away on his laptop.

Navy whites

On the way back from an ordination in Seattle last night, I made a sketch of this sailor in his Navy whites. Funny how fit and alert those uniforms make them look.
