The Rev. Mike Morrissey

Today I attended the memorial service for the Rev. Alan Jordan, a priest of this diocese for many years. Fr. Alan was 90 years old, and had served in many parishes in our diocese. The memorial service was well attended, and many people shared their memories of this soft-spoken, caring father figure.

During the service, I thought about the communion of saints, the souls of all human beings somehow gathered by Jesus in one communion of love and grace. No one is left out and all are blessed. The living and the dead (including my dad) are joined together in one community of love.

The Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel presided and the Rev. Mike Morrissey preached. I made this sketch during the sermon.

Lynnwood Center Road

This morning was windy and rainy, and after my appointment in Bainbridge Island I drove out to Lynnwood Center. I made this sketch from my car parked on the side of Point White Drive.

Barker Creek

After a very busy week last week, I was glad to have some time off today on Presidents' Day. I went swimming at the Family Y, then I stopped at Barker Creek to make this sketch. I had to crawl over a fence and scramble down the embankment to find a place to sketch.

Cambrian Ave. house again

Today I attended a watercolor workshop by Stella Canfield. I painted the same house on Cambrian Ave. that I painted earlier, this time in a bigger format, about 15" x 20", and added two figures.

Late afternoon on Dye's Inlet

Today is the first of February and a mild sunny day. I sat on the gravel beach of Dye's Inlet and made this watercolor as the sun edged down. It was a lovely peaceful way to spend some time in the Creation today. I like the general effect I got, although it's a bit overworked in places.
