22-foot Scow Sloop by Howard Chappelle

I was sick for several days recently, so I napped and dreamed about boats. When I was awake, I drew up the plans for this 22-foot scow sloop found in Howard Chapelle's 1941 book, Boatbuilding. The book is a classic, and my copy is well-worn and dog-eared.

This particular boat is a humble scow with squared ends, which Chappelle designed after workboat scows he'd seen. But Chappelle gave this designed such lovely curves fore-and-aft and a sweet little cabin so that it has a modest beauty of its own. I'm building this boat in my mind. Maybe someday I'll build it in wood.
