Quilcene Cabin

I took this photo last summer just north of Quilcene. I like the funky look of this trailer/cabin.

Hansville Farm

I took a photo of this farm last summer and finally got around to making a watercolor of it.

Soren Raagaard for JKPP

From this photo.
I'm trying to use a combination of warm and cool colors to define the portrait. I think I got a good mix of warm yellows, cool red and cool blue in this one.
I'm using a new camera to photograph my portraits. It has a better lens than my little point-and-shoot, and I think my portraits will look much better.

Life drawing December 9 with Gloria

Our model was Gloria. Only six people came because it snowed about 3 inches last night.
Kind of muddy, but I like the strong shapes.

I'm pretty happy with this for a two-minute drawing.

Twenty minute drawing.

It's really hard to draw hands and feet. I've got to work on them.

Keyport house

I made this painting of a house in Keyport and added the pickup truck from my imagination. I gave it as a gift for our PAL party. 5 x 7 inches

Haley at life drawing

I had a good day at life drawing. The first painting has pretty good proportions and I like the white space.

This was a complicated pose but I think I got the proportions about right.

The face and head is pretty good but the legs are too long. It's hard to figure where the legs stop.

Here's a photo of our life drawing room.

Vanese Mercado for JKPP

I painted this directly with the brush (no pencil work) and I'm fairly pleased with the way it turned out (except for that garish cobalt blue).

Barry Farmer for JKPP

From this photo. He has a wonderful craggy face and the photo has a lot of contrast.

Amy Erickson for JKPP

From this photo. I like this drawing, although I made her a bit thinner than she is.

Miss Makita Drill for JKPP

From this photo. I've set up a photo lab of sorts in the basement so I can get better photos of my art work. It's basically a frame for the art work under the best lighting in the basement plus a work light over the art work. Seems to be helping. 6B pencil.

Autumn shed

On Tuesday mornings I go to Sonshine Fellowship, a breakfast Bible study at a local restaurant. Afterward I have a little bit of time to make a watercolor before I go to the office. This scene actually had an ugly shipping container in it that I changed to an old shed.

Shana at life drawing

This is my best effort at life drawing today. Funny how I seem to do better with the initial warmup sketches when I'm loose.  18 x 24 inches.

Life drawing Terrance

The best of my work today. I'm trying not to paint everything, but leave some white spaces. I like the proportions here.

St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Medina, WA watercolor

I started making this watercolor during lunch break at my meeting on September 24, but I didn't finish it until much later. I erased the trees by painting water over them and picking up the paint with a paper towel, then I painted them in again. Not too satisfied with the overall result. I had hoped it would be better. The problem is I don;t have a clear center of interest, and the values are all similar. Besides that, I painted the islands in the foreground just as they were. I could have altered them to lead the eye into the background.
