Cape Flattery, WA

Katy and I spent two days in Neah Bay, on the extreme NW corner of Washington State. We hiked out to Cape Flattery, the very tip of the peninsula, and I made this ball-point pen sketch of the cliffs below the trail.

Here's a photo of the sketch in progress:

Julia Sattout for JKPP

Trying to loosen up with watercolor a little bit. Still pretty tight. From this photo.

Vladimir Fokanov for JKPP

I got his face a little too wide. Other than that, it's not a bad portrait. From this photo.

Big Beef Bay again

Another attempt to capture the tide flats and trees at Big Beef Bay.

Big Beef Bay, Seabeck, WA

I made a sketch of Big Beef Bay last week and made this watercolor at home.

Big Beef Bay is an estuary that empties into Hood Canal near Seabeck, WA. The tide flats are a delicious mix of browns, grays, and greens. In the background is a shed that's part of the UW aquatic research station.

Shawna at life drawing

Two of my best paintings at life drawing today.

Skokomish River Mouth

I made this watercolor of the mouth of the Skokomish River during a break at a workshop at St. Andrew's Retreat House on Hood Canal.
