Starbucks couple in watercolor

Made a watercolor of this couple at Starbucks. Kind of interesting to get out the watercolors right there at the table. They were across the room and didn't notice what I was doing.

USS Turner Joy, Bremerton Marina

Wikipedia says, "USS Turner Joy was one of 18 Forrest Sherman-class destroyers of the United States Navy. She was named for Admiral Charles Turner Joy USN. Commissioned in 1959, she spent her entire career in the Pacific." She's moored in the Bremerton Marina as a breakwater and a tourist attraction. Made this sketch in my Moleskine notebook on Saturday morning.

Post Alley, Seattle

Post Alley is one of the narrow alleys near Pike Street Market that's filled with shops and restaurants. Lots of character here. I made this ink sketch in about 25 minutes, ran for the ferry and added color while I was on the ferry.

Tim Lowly for JKPP

From this photo. I made this watercolor after reading Watercolor Secrets by Charles Reid. I like the way Reid makes a light pencil sketch, then places his darks boldly, using complementary colors to bring out color harmonies.

Pike Street Market flower shop

When I go to Seattle for a meeting, I like to stop by Pike Street Market on my way home. There's always something interesting to sketch.

Bridgeview Marina, Bremerton

I kind of like this marina because it's sort of hidden, in a rough-looking part of town. I made this sk
etch on the morning of the Fourth of July.

Fraiche Cup Coffee busker

On the morning of the Fourth of July, I came to downtown Bremerton near the ferry terminal and found this guy playing his electric guitar outside Fraiche Cup Coffee. He was really good! I enjoyed listening to him as I drew him.

PAL painters

In place of our regular meeting of the Poulsbo Artist League, we were invited to the home of Lisa Stowers for a plein air painting session. While the others painted the garden, I painted the painters. Lisa's home has beautiful gardens that were a pleasure to see and to paint. And there was something good to eat, too!'
Watercolor, 9 x 12 inches

Pike Street Market scene

While I was between meetings, I came to Pike Street Market in tha afternoon. It's always bustling with people and interesting things to draw. I made this watercolor sketch of the scene. 5 1/2 x 8 inches, Moleskine notebook.

Mountain View Road barn - again

I think this is my fifth attempt at this scene. I'll keep at it until I get it right! 15 x 22 inches, one of my larger paintings.

Kitsap farm again

This is my second time to do this watercolor, a typical barn scene in Kitsap County, painted from my imagination. 15 x 11 inches

My best effort this day.

Abdel at life drawing

I was pleased with this effort because it was a 10 minute pose, the last ten minutes of our session, and I quickly drew the figure and laid in some good washes.

 20 minutes pose

The head is too big (or the body is too small). I have a tendency to do this.

Issis at life drawing

I painted this one quickly and I like the spontaneity of it.

A nice job on the face but the proportions of the figure are out of whack.

The proportions of this painting are actually pretty good. Didn't have time to fill in more color.

Serena Lewis for JKPP

I made this watercolor a few days ago but wasn't happy with it. I was able to fix the problems and now I like it.

Barn on Mountain View Road

On Tuesday morning, I made this sketch of the lovely old barn on Mountain View Road near Poulsbo, then on Wednesday I painted a watercolor painting from the sketch.

US Capitol

Made this sketch while we're in Washington, DC, visiting Chad and Brittany. We spent several hours touring the National Museum of the American Indian. I was pretty tired, so I took a museum break and made this sketch.
