Bob Espeseth funeral

Today I attended the funeral of Bob Espeseth at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral in Seattle. Bob is the husband of my colleague, Cynthia Espeseth, and died tragically a few weeks ago. The cathedral was full, and the liturgy was magnificent. Transcendent organ preludes by Bach, heartfelt tributes by two friends, a warm and personal sermon by Bishop Rickel, the consolation of the resurrection punctuated by holy communion, ending with Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copeland that grabbed us and shook us to our roots as we stood there unable to leave. Most poignant: his daughter carrying the box with his ashes, with his distinctive hat sitting on top. Made this sketch of the cathedral before the service and colored it later.
